West Valley City is Close to Colleges and Universities

West Valley City’s spirit of ingenuity and entrepreneurial energy is cultivated by its proximity to major institutions of higher learning — leading to an educated and motivated workforce. Incredibly, there are six nationally recognized public and private universities within an hour’s drive of West Valley City, including The University of Utah, which is a mere 15 minutes away. In addition to The University of Utah with its world-renowned Research Park dedicated to the stimulation of economic development, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, and Weber State University are also short drives away.

In Utah, 5.7% of the state’s population is enrolled in higher education and graduates with less debt than in other states. West Valley City Economic Optimization does its part by funding full Hometown Scholars scholarships to send West Valley City residents and high school graduates to the University of Utah.

Additionally, the main campus of Salt Lake Community College — located just south of West Valley City —  provides accredited junior college education, non-credit courses, and workshops to more than 60,000 students. The Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT) — Utah’s system of technical schools — serves high school and adult students throughout Utah. UCAT’s Custom Fit partnership — funded in part by the State of Utah — works with companies to offer customized training and development to their employees.
