West Valley City is more than just a place to live—it's a community that believes in the potential of its residents. The city understands that a strong, educated workforce is the backbone of a sustainable future. That’s why, since 2015, West Valley City Economic Development has proudly funded the My Hometown Scholarships, empowering local students to achieve their dreams of higher education.

Investing in Higher Education

This year, the city awarded $76,000 to The University of Utah’s Opportunity Scholars program, reinforcing its commitment to supporting our youth. The Hometown Scholars initiative was designed to give students from West Valley City the tools they need to earn college degrees, build careers, and ultimately contribute to the growth and vitality of their hometown.

Housing for Students

One of the standout features of the Hometown Scholars program is the opportunity for recipients to live at ICO Fairbourne Station, conveniently located next to the TRAX station, allowing for an easy 15-minute commute to The University of Utah. This housing option not only eases the financial burden of living expenses but also keeps students connected to their community. Additionally, students are offered mentorship and other scholarship opportunities through the university, ensuring they have the support needed to succeed.

Eligibility

The program is open to students who attend high school in West Valley City or those who live within city limits but attend schools elsewhere. This inclusivity ensures that all eligible students have the chance to benefit from the scholarship, no matter where they go to school. The impact of this program is felt across the community as scholarship recipients deepen their roots in West Valley City by earning their degrees, participating in volunteer work, and establishing professional connections that often lead to long-term careers in the area.

Our Commitment

By investing in the education and development of our young residents, West Valley City is not only helping these students achieve their personal and professional goals but also ensuring a bright future for the city as a whole.
